Hammers midfielder Havard Nordtveit spoke exclusively to the club’s official website, after his side’s 0-0 draw with the Toffees on Saturday, and admitted that he felt nervous before the game, whilst sharing how difficult it was to play the entire game, after his lack of first-team action recently.
The Norwegian moved to West Ham in the summer of 2016 on a free transfer, after his contract with Borussia Monchengladbach expired, but he has really struggled to live up to high expectations.
The physically imposing midfield enforcer has made just nine Premier League starts, and many Hammers fans have been left baffled by his inclusion in the side, when he has been selected by Slaven Bilic.
The former Arsenal man delivered one of his best performances of the season against Ronald Koeman’s men, however, and spoke to WHUFC.com in the aftermath of the game:
“For me personally I hadn’t played 90 minutes for a while so it was tough, but the whole team worked well together defensively and offensively, so it was a good system. I was a little bit nervous at the start, but this is my position and I felt that I came more and more into the game as it went on, especially in the second half.”

Whether Nordtveit still has a future with the East London outfit remains to be seen, but his dynamic display on Saturday would certainly have helped his cause no end.
At just 26, the Norway international still has a lot to offer, and it could very well be in Bilic’s best interests to give him at least one more season to prove what he is truly capable of.
