West Ham United are reportedly keen on signing the West Bromwich Albion defender.
Manuel Pellegrini absolutely must improve his ranks at the London Stadium this summer, following West Ham’s underwhelming Premier League campaign last term.
One particular area where the Chilean simply must strengthen is his central defensive department, with James Collins’ recent release, Winston Reid’s injury problems and Angelo Ogbonna on the wrong side of 30.
According to the Sun, one of the Hammers’ key summer transfer targets is West Brom’s Craig Dawson, and the Mirror claim that he could be available for around £10 million this summer.
West Ham’s interest in Dawson seems to be complete madness, however, considering the fact that they could have signed Jonny Evans for £6.5 million less this summer.
The Northern Ireland international eventually joined Leicester City for just £3.5 million, and questions must be asked of the Hammers as to why they did not bring the 30-year-old to the London Stadium.
Dawson is an able bodied defender, that cannot be denied, but £10 million for a player who was part of a relegated side seems to be rather extortionate.
Evans, meanwhile, has proven his quality over the past decade, and Leicester have secured themselves a real bargain by bringing him to the King Power Stadium.
And West Ham could very well go on to rue their decision not to pursue the former Manchester United ace’s signature.
