West Ham United reportedly want to sign the Inter Milan ace.
According to a report from Italian media outlet Gazzetta dello Sport, West Ham are interested in signing £31.5m rated Ivan Perisic this summer, and whilst he might be considered as an exciting addition at first glance, it could be just yet further evidence of the east London outfit making the same old mistakes in the transfer market.
Hammers boss Manuel Pellegrini brought a whole host of new players into the London Stadium last summer, but hardly any of those additions have proved to be a hit at the club.
West Ham have made a bad habit recently of signing experienced players, who are already past their best, on extortionate wages – something that really has become a problem for them.
Javier Hernandez, Andriy Yarmolenko and Marko Arnautovic are the Hammers’ three highest earners, according to Spotrac, and those three players are 30, 29 and 29 respectively.
Perisic is a good player, that cannot be denied, but he is already on the wrong side of 30, and his powers will start to wane very soon.
West Ham will be better off targeting younger, more hungry players with a point to prove in the game, and certainly on less wages.
Something has to change in east London, but signing Perisic would be a clear indication that the club’s board have not learned from previous mistakes.
