West Ham United should use the potential influence of Javier Hernandez in a bid to trump rivals Tottenham Hotspur for Hirving Lozano.
West Ham were linked with Mexico star Lozano during the summer (Football London) but a new report claims Spurs are now seriously interested in the player (The Mirror).
Both Tottenham and the Hammers had indifferent starts to the season but West Ham are starting to look a genuine force under new boss Manuel Pellegrini.
Spurs are focused on securing Champions League football and winning silverware and the two London rivals clash later this month in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup for the second season running.
Both clubs has very different summers in hr transfer market.
West Ham spent over £100 on 10 new players in the summer while Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino did not make a single new signing to a team already bristling with top class talent.
PSV star Lozano would undoubtedly improve both sides.
But could West Ham trump Spurs by using the potential influence of his closed friend and international teammate Javier Hernandez?
Before the World Cup in Russia, Hernandez told West Ham’s official website that Lozano was ‘one to watch’ as an emerging talent during the tournament.
He wasn’t wrong either with the skilful and dynamic attacker scoring and assisting as Mexico made it to the last 16.
Lozano has talked in the past about looking up to his country’s all-time leading goalscorer.
With Michail Antonio’s future in doubt and question marks over whether star playmaker Manuel Lanzini will be able to get back to his optimum level following a serious knee injury, West Ham would do well to register their interest in a player that has yet to be snaffled up by one of Europe’s elite clubs.
Lozano would get more first team action in East London but Spurs look likely to have Champions League football to offer.
So Hernandez’s influence could be all important should Pellegrini resurrect his reported previous interest in the 23-year-old.
