West Ham should try one last time for Kelechi Iheanacho after Leicester holdup

The Manchester City player looks to be heading to Leicester City, but until a deal is done West Ham United have hope.

According to a report from Own Goal Nigeria, Kelechi Iheanacho’s proposed move to Leicester City has been held up due to a dispute over two companies both claiming to be the player’s bona fide agent.

It is a somewhat bizarre situation, but West Ham United should see the delay as an ideal opportunity to make one final play for the Nigeria international.

As reported by ESPN earlier this summer, the Hammers pulled the plug on a potential deal for the Manchester City player with the Blues seeking a significant transfer fee along with a buyback clause.

It was a bizarre decision then, but with Leicester closing in on a deal it was perhaps a case of stepping out of a race Hammers boss Slaven Bilic felt he had already lost.

However, weeks later Iheanacho is still a City player and West Ham are seemingly no closer to signing the proven goal-scorers they need to take the club forward next season and beyond.

The 20-year-old is one of the most exciting young strikers in world football and West Ham would be foolish not to try everything in their power to gazump Leicester, even at this late stage of negotiations.

Any delay in proceedings allows West Ham to potentially swoop in and, as unlikely as a change of heart from the player may be, what harm would it do.

The Hammers hierarchy need to act fast to avoid a repeat of last summer and, now they know exactly what City are asking for, they should offer it and see what happens.

Iheanacho was expected to be a Leicester player by now but he is not, meaning West Ham have one final chance to rectify a mistake they should never have made this summer.
