The Dutchman would be a fantastic signing for West Ham United.

Hammers boss Slaven Bilic continues to leave no stone unturned in his relentless pursuit of adding genuine quality to his squad ahead of the start of the new Premier League campaign.

The Croatian has already added Pablo Zabaleta and Joe Hart to his ranks, and his focus has already shifted to strengthening his attacking options, with Marko Arnautovic reportedly close to sealing a switch to the London Stadium.

Following Dimitri Payet’s acrimonious exit from the club in January, however, the signing of the Austrian on its’ own will not be enough to fill the void left behind by the Frenchman.

And an interesting option for West Ham, to help supplement the potential signing of Arnautovic, would be Wesley Sneijder, who is available on a free transfer following his release from Galatasaray this summer.

The 33-year-old has been one of the most exciting performers in European football over the past decade, and he still has plenty of years ahead of him at the very highest level.

His athleticism is obviously not what it once was, but the former Real Madrid and Inter Milan man has never relied upon any kind of pace, which means his game should not be adversely affected as a result of his advancing years.

He is exceptionally gifted from a technical perspective, and possesses the rare ability to produce a little bit of magic from out of nowhere that can change a game in an instant – something that the Hammers have been bereft of since Payet’s exit six months ago.

One potential stumbling block could be Sneijder’s wage demands, which will likely be extortionate to say the least, but if some kind of compromise can be reached, and Bilic convinces the 33-year-old into moving to east London, it could turn out to be a real coup for West Ham.
