After weeks of transfer no-goes, the former Bayern Munich star would be an outstanding option for Slaven Bilic’s squad.
Germany’s Mario Gomez celebrates after scoring
Germany international Mario Gomez is set to leave Fiorentina, according to Sky Sports, and West Ham could do a lot worse than choosing the striker to fill their attacking wishes this summer.
The Sun previously linked the Hammers to the forward earlier in the summer, and with the news from Sky that he is not in the plans of new Viola boss Paulo Sousa, the East Londoners should consider making a concerted effort to bring him to the Olympic Stadium.

With West Ham struggling to sign the much discussed top quality centre forward ahead of the new Premier League season, the club will surely be considering a wide range of options.
There is little doubt that Gomez is a top goalscorer, with 263 club goals to his name in less than 460 matches, including one season at Bayern Munich where he netted over 40 times.
The Germany international struggled somewhat after leaving Germany for Fiorentina in 2013, suffering from injury problems and a loss of form while in Florence.

But the 31-year-old found his feet again in a loan at Turkish giants Besiktas last season, scoring 26 league goals in 33 matches to fire them to the title. He isn’t young, but is barely a year older than recent target Carlos Bacca, and would cost a lot less with his contract set to expire in 2017.
Even more intriguingly, Italian publication La Gazzetta dello Sport are suggesting that Gomez is attempting to negotiate a free transfer ahead of his contract expiring.
Gomez won his place back in the Germany starting line-up after his recent exploits in Istanbul, going on to score four times for his country since the turn of the year before injury ended his European Championships.
If earlier reports are true, the Hammers have already considered him, but these recent developments make Gomez an affordable and quality option.
