Lazar Markovic is way down the pecking order at Liverpool, so surely West Ham should chance their arm?
Liverpool winger Lazar Markovic could be set for a move to Swansea City before Wednesday’s deadline, according to Sky Sports Transfer Centre (Wednesday, 07:19), but surely he would be perfect at West Ham?
The 23-year-old has failed to make a single appearance for Liverpool this season, making the 18-man squad for just one match during the 2-0 loss to Leicester City in the Carabao Cup.
He remains behind the likes of Sadio Mane, Mo Salah, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Adam Lallana and even teenager Ben Woodburn, as his Anfield nightmare continues.
The 22-time Serbia international has been sent out on loan three times since joining Liverpool in the summer of 2014 from Benfica for a fee of £20million, turning out for Sporting Lisbon, Fenerbahce and Hull City.
He impressed out on the flanks for Hull during the second half of the 2016-17 season, scoring two goals in 14 games but failed to earn a permanent move as the Tigers were relegated into the Championship.
Now, Swansea want him to help them in their fight against relegation, but surely West Ham’s injury woes would make Markovic the perfect short-term replacement?
The likes of Marko Arntautovic and Manuel Lanzini are both injured, while Arthur Masuaku has served just one of his six-game ban for spitting. Andre Ayew’s future is in doubt after Swansea have also made a bid for the Ghanaian.
The sale of Diafra Sakho has also left the Hammers light in the final third despite the signing of Joao Mario from Inter Milan. Although Markovic is not on a level playing field with the likes of Mario, he would provide much-needed cover.
If Markovic can show the kind of form he did on loan with Hull, then he would be a strong addition under Moyes at the London Stadium. He had the world at his feet as a teenager, and a loan move to the Hammers could see him finaly maximise his huge potential.
