The West Ham United player is not featuring for Blackburn Rovers and should instead be learning from the Hammers’ star man.
West Ham United midfielder Martin Samuelsen was expected to excel at Blackburn Rovers following his season-long loan move, but thus far things have not gone according to plan for the Norwegian international.
Still only 19, he has his entire career ahead of him. However given his lack of chances at Ewood Park this season, should the Hammers cut his deal short and bring him back to the London Stadium?
After all, at least then he will be able to work alongside the likes of Dimitri Payet and Manuel Lanzini in training. As it is he is merely being tasked with a watching brief more often than not; an unused substitute on nine out of 12 occasions and featuring for just 70 minutes in the Championship.
He has fared slightly better in the EFL Cup, featuring for 62 minutes against Leeds United, but that is not enough and there seems no sign of a change in fortune for the youngster.
He clearly needs to improve his end product but this loan spell is not what any of the parties would have wanted.
West Ham want the player to feature regularly, Samuelsen wants to continue his development and Blackburn want the midfield maestro he is tipped to become.
Instead he is doing little more than making up the numbers and he is too good for that.
As a result West Ham should recall him in January and ensure he continues to learn from the French international he is tipped to one day replace in the Hammers’ starting line-up.
