West Ham United are reportedly keen on Leeds United’s Pontus Jansson.
Leeds United’s Pontus Jansson may not have enjoyed the greatest season of his career, but that isn’t stopping Premier League interest in his services.
The Swede has been largely up-and-down in the heart of the Leeds defence this season, in part due to the fact that the Whites haven’t been able to find him a consistent partner.
However, he seems to have done enough to catch David Moyes’ eye, as TEAMtalk note that West Ham are keen to land the centre back this summer, with the Hammers in need of defensive reinforcements.
Moyes attended Fulham’s 2-0 win over Leeds earlier this month and saw Jansson in action, with West Ham now potentially attempting to convince the Whites to sell their star centre back this summer.
That may be a difficult task given the lack of proven centre backs at Elland Road, but the Hammers should look to tempt Leeds into a deal by offering Sam Byram as part of the move.
The West Ham right back, 24, joined the Hammers from Leeds in January 2016, but hasn’t quite lived up to expectations in East London, with a move looking likely this summer.
West Ham are being strongly linked with Fulham’s Ryan Fredericks, and adding another right back would certainly make Byram expendable, whilst a return to Elland Road may be appealing to the Leeds academy product.
With Gaetano Berardi enduring a tough season, Byram could slot back in as a right back, allowing Luke Ayling to return and shift to play at centre back, or Byram could even feature further forward, as he did under Steve Evans in a move which may make some sense for all parties this summer.
