The England striker is rumoured to have played his last game for the Gunners. West Ham could start pondering a potential free move in the summer.
Danny Welbeck has arguably not had the greatest luck in recent years.
Though a talented striker, the 28-year-old has experienced a number of injury problems during his time at Arsenal.
When fit, Welbeck is a good attacking option – good hold-up play, a decent shot and header, and a threat on the counter and from set pieces.
However, injury issues have hampered his time at the Emirates Stadium, though he has still managed to make 126 appearances in just over four years.
A Sky Sports News report has emerged this week suggesting that the former Manchester United forward may have played his last game for the Gunners.
His contract is up at the end of the season, and as he is currently sidelined with a long-term ankle injury (Transfermarkt), it has been claimed that Arsenal may let him go in the summer.
With regards to West Ham, Manuel Pellegrini tends to favour a 4-3-3 system with a lone striker, so the man in question needs to be the kind that is strong and can hold up play.
Marko Arnautovic has been filling that role, but aside from now being injured himself, he has been linked with a move away – Calciomercato recently speculating Serie A side Roma is interested.
Should the big Austrian end up moving away from the London Stadium next year, then it wouldn’t hurt the Hammers to start monitoring Welbeck with a view to a Bosman summer move.
Given he is an England international with two top-level clubs on his CV and is also a former teammate of Jack Wilshere, he could probably be persuased to join West Ham and do a job for the east Londoners.
