Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek looks set for a January loan move.
Whilst he showed real promise for England at the World Cup this summer, Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s season isn’t going as we would have liked.
The midfielder starred on loan at Crystal Palace last season, and his performances gave him the chance to play for Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions in Russia.
After no loan move to another Premier League club went through, many though Loftus-Cheek would finally get a chance to nail down a first-team place with Chelsea.
However, Maurizio Sarri brought in Mateo Kovacic on deadline day, and 22-year-old Loftus-Cheek has now played just 33 minutes of Premier League action this season.
That’s simply not enough, and the Daily Mail report that he wants a loan move away in January, with Crystal Palace and Everton keen – but another club who should be keen is West Ham United.
West Ham need to bring in at least one more central midfielder in January, and with Mark Noble, Declan Rice and Pedro Obiang all defensively-minded, a more attacking option would be useful for Manuel Pellegrini.
The London Evening Standard reported in January 2017 that West Ham wanted to take Loftus-Cheek on loan, and whilst he earns around £60,000-a-week in wages (Telegraph), it would be a smart decision.
Having Loftus-Cheek’s ability to carry the ball forward from midfield would revolutionise Pellegrini’s midfield, whilst he also has experience out wide – and with Loftus Cheek facing a critical time, West Ham could position themselves well to sign him permanently one day if they offer him a loan move to the London Stadium first.
