West Ham United may have had their eye on the Edinburgh derby, but their transfer target was overshadowed by a 16-year-old.

McGinn looks set for a bright future and as he may be available for £4 million, it is no surprise that David Moyes appears to be eyeing up a potential deal for the central midfielder.

Given their interest, it may also be no surprise if the Irons had one eye on Sunday’s Edinburgh derby. And if the Premier League side did have a look, they would have surely been impressed by the performance of the man that McGinn was battling with at Tynecastle.
The buzz around Harry Cochrane appears to grow with every single game he plays. The 16-year-old – who was born on the day that goals from Robbie Keane and Rio Ferdinand saw West Ham lose 2-0 to Leeds at Upton Park in 2001 – was exceptional when Hearts ended Celtic’s incredible unbeaten domestic run earlier in the campaign and put in another brilliant display when he faced McGinn on Sunday in a game that his team would win 1-0.

It is quite remarkable how well Cochrane has adapted to life in the Hearts first-team, and Craig Levein must surely be expecting a load of interest in the teenager in the coming windows.
And after overshadowing West Ham’s target McGinn, perhaps Moyes should now switch his attention to trying to bring Cochrane in as he appears to have a frightening amount of potential, and acting now may prove to be a masterstroke.
