Everton have been linked with making a move for West Ham United striker Andy Carroll in January as their Premier League woes continue.

At the start of the month, The Sun reported that Everton were considering a £20 million bid for West Ham striker Andy Carroll as Ronald Koeman considered potential options who could fill the void that Romelu Lukaku left behind in the summer.

On his day, Carroll can be a brilliant weapon to have for Slaven Bilic, and that may have tempted the Hammers to seriously consider ignoring any bids that came in for the 28-year-old that did not include a ludicrous fee.

But based on Carroll’s season so far, it is surely fair to suggest that if Everton come calling with a £20 million bid in January, the Irons would be foolish not to accept.

The former Newcastle and Liverpool man’s injury problems are well-documented, and they have arguably prevented Bilic from being able to rely on having him in the side for a prolonged period of time.

And based on his contribution to West Ham’s game with Burnley on Saturday, injury is no longer the only reason that Bilic simply cannot afford to rely on him or turn his nose up at an eight-figure bid in January.

Carroll – who is still awaiting his first goal of the season – was sent off inside the first half-hour at Turf Moor after receiving two incredibly similar yellow cards as he appeared to use his arms while vying with the Clarets defenders when going up for a header.

The yellows infuriated the supporters – and generally not because they disagreed with the referee – and left West Ham in an extremely difficult position that they came so close to coming through by securing three points.

Everton may have similarly been left unimpressed by the striker’s display and may now be preparing to turn their attention elsewhere, but if they do decide to make a bid in January, West Ham should have no qualms about letting him leave and perhaps spending the money straight away on another forward.
