The Portugal international is wanted by Tottenham Hotspur, but West Ham United should gatecrash the party.

Hammers fans are fearing a repeat of last summer’s miserable transfer window, with Slaven Bilic once again struggling to bring some of his primary targets to the club.

A deal for Joe Hart seems to be close, but the Croatian must be looking to strengthen in every department this summer, if he is to guide his side to a successful campaign in the Premier League.

One particular area in need of improvement that seems to be overlooked is the central midfield department, what with Mark Noble’s regression, and with this in mind, West Ham should consider joining the likes of Tottenham and West Brom in the race to sign William Carvalho.

The Sporting Lisbon star is a summer target for both Spurs and the Baggies, according to A Bola, and his club will not accept anything less than £26.5 million for him.

The 25-year-old has proven throughout his career so far that he has all of the attributes required to be a success in the Premier League. He is strong, tenacious in the tackle, and an accomplished passer of the football.

Staring at nearly 6ft 2in, and powerfully built, Carvalho could form a menacing midfield trio at the London Stadium, alongside Pedro Obiang and Cheikhou Kouyate.

Whilst £26.5 million seems like a lot of money for a so-called defensive midfielder, the Portugal international, with his aggressive attitude and playing style, is precisely the type of signing the Hammers need to be making.

And if they manage to beat Tottenham to his signature, it would be all the sweeter for West Ham fans.
