The Leicester City goalkeeper would be a better option than the Manchester City man for West Ham United.

Hammers boss Slaven Bilic will be desperate to improve upon his defensive options this summer, and the signing of a top-class goalkeeper is thought to feature highly on his agenda.

The Croatian is reportedly closely monitoring Manchester City stopper Joe Hart, according to the Telegraph, with around £15 million required to secure his signature.

There is no denying that the 30-year-old has been a consistent performer throughout his career, but there have been genuine questions asked of him recently.

Throughout the course of the past 12 months, Hart has put in a handful of shaky displays for the England national team, showcasing a lack of confidence, poor reflexes and seemingly a diminished level of agility.

His temporary spell in Serie A with Torino was hardly a success either. He conceded 64 goals in 37 appearances, and it was no surprise that the Italians chose not to pursue his signature following the expiration of his 12-month loan deal.

With this in mind, West Ham could be better served in going after Foxes stopper Kasper Schmeichel.

The Dane is the same age as Hart, but has performed to far higher standards over the past two or three years. Whilst the Leicester man seems to be going from strength-to-strength, the City ‘keeper seems to be regressing.

Schmeichel was exceptional throughout the Foxes’ incredible Premier League-winning campaign during the 2015/16 season, and despite the fact that his performance levels dipped last term, he would still be a huge upgrade on both Adrian and Darren Randolph.

The Denmark international is now entering the prime years of his goalkeeping career, and he will surely only get better over the next half-decade.

He is still under contract at the King PowerStadium for another four years, however, so he will not come cheap, but the Hammers have the opportunity to make a big statement signing by bringing the 30-year-old to the London Stadium this summer, and if they manage to do so, it could turn out to be a signing of real significance.
