West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini will be desperate to add some real quality to his ranks at the London Stadium this summer.
One particular area where the Chilean will want to improve is his centre-forward department, and according to a report from the Guardian, the Hammers are keen on signing £43.5 million-rated Celta Vigo hitman Maxi Gomez.
Should West Ham be looking elsewhere, however?
Gomez, 22, was hardly prolific in Spain last season, racking up just 13 goals in 36 outings, and there could be more value to be had a little closer to home.
Chelsea hitman Michy Batshuayi could be available for transfer this summer.
The Blues already have Gonzalo Higuain and Olivier Giroud, so the Belgium international will struggle for regular game-time at Stamford Bridge next season.
And the pacey striker would be the perfect addition for West Ham this summer.
The 25-year-old is already accustomed to playing in the Premier League, and if given the chance to play regularly, he could shine for the Hammers.
The former Marseille man, who joined Chelsea for £33 million three years ago (BBC Sport), possesses more pace than Gomez – something that West Ham currently really lack in the final third.
His arrival at the London Stadium would enable the Hammers to stretch the opposition’s defence, providing more space for the likes of Manuel Lanzini and Felipe Anderson to work their magic.
Batshuayi would most probably be a cheaper option than Gomez, and considering the fact that he already has a few years experience of playing in the Premier League, he would be a more sensible addition for West Ham.
