West Ham United should consider signing Victor Valdes on a free transfer.
Slaven Bilic will hope that he has solved one major problem area by signing England goalkeeper Joe Hart this summer.
The England international joined the Hammers on loan from Manchester City this summer, and is expected to become the first-choice goalkeeper at the London club.
His arrival has already seen the departure of Darren Raldoph to Middlesbrough, and it remains to be seen whether Adrian follows him out of the exit door as well.
The 30-year-old is determined to fight for his place, but he would be tempted to move on if clubs like Newcastle United and Crystal Palace offer him the chance of regular first team action again.
West Ham should cash in on him, and move for Victor Valdes who is available on a free transfer. The Spaniard is out of contract following Middlesbrough’s relegation to the Championship.
The 35-year-old is an experienced goalkeeper who won three Champions League titles with Barcelona. He would be a solid second-choice goalkeeper behind Hart.
Valdes made 28 Premier League appearances for Boro last season, and therefore he has the required experience to cope with the pressure at West Ham.
Moreover, he will be only required to play cup games or when Hart gets injured. He is good enough to provide a strong competition for Hart, but at the same time won’t complain about lack of game time.
His vast experience would come handy and young players could learn a lot from him at the club. Given his age (goalkeepers have long careers), quality, and financial benefit, West Ham should move for him this summer.
