The Mexican midfielder would be a useful addition for West Ham United.

Manuel Pellegrini the manager

West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini will surely be desperate to bolster his ranks at the London Stadium this summer, in an effort to make his team more competitive in the race for the Europa League places next season.

The problem for the Chilean, however, is that he probably won’t be given lavish funds to spend in order to strengthen his Hammers squad, so he will most likely have to be thrifty in his player recruitment.

One area in particular where Pellegrini will want to address is his central midfield department, having sold Edimilson Fernandes already and Mark Noble and Carlos Sanches already in the twilight of their careers.

And with this in mind, West Ham should consider making a move for Porto ace Hector Herrera, who will be available on a free transfer this summer.

The 29-year-old is vastly experienced and technically gifted, and would provide Pellegrini with something that he does not currently possess.

Herrera is also a combative midfielder, and seems to be ideally suited to the robust nature of the Premier League.

With 70 international caps for Mexico to his name, the 29-year-old has proven quality, and his availability on a free transfer makes signing him this summer a complete no-brainer for West Ham.

The Porto ace might not be one for the future for the east London outfit, but for the here and now, he’d be perfect for them.
