West Ham United have made at least two bids for the Hull City man, but could the Bournemouth starlet be a better option in the long-term?

A recent report from Sky Sports suggested that West Ham have made at least two bids for Hull City’s Robert Snodgrass, but appear to be having no luck trying to sign the Scotsman, so is it time they switched their attention before they pay over the odds for a player who will turn 30 this year?

Snodgrass is undoubtedly a hugely talented player, and probably still has several years at the highest level left in him. But West Ham’s season looks to be on course to conclude with an unspectacular mid-table finish, so it may make more sense to target a player with bags of potential who could use the next few months to settle in before the slate is wiped clean and the club look to hit the heights they failed to reach this term.

Ryan Fraser is an exciting talent currently giving Bournemouth supporters plenty to shout about at the moment, and he could be the perfect January addition to West Ham’s squad.

The 22-year-old has shone against the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal this term, and yet, he is yet to really hold down a regular starting spot at the Vitality Stadium.

While that fact may put some Hammers fans off, Slaven Bilic and the club’s hierarchy should view it as an opportunity to land an extremely gifted winger for a lower fee than a player with his talent should command, and surely less than what Hull will want for Snodgrass.

He is able to give opposition defenders plenty of headaches with his skill and trickery, and his crossing ability could be extremely useful given how Andy Carroll showed against Crystal Palace that any ball into his arc can find its way into the back of the net.

And as mentioned, with West Ham well adrift of the bottom three and the European places currently, Fraser coming in this month would arguably boost his chances of being a long-term success as he could adapt to his new surroundings before the pressure really hits again at the start of the new season.

A move for Robert Snodgrass would definitely be the safer bet for West Ham, but a gamble on the youngster could be viewed in years to come as an inspired decision by the club.
