The Montenegro international could be a fine if surprise addition to West Ham United’s squad.
While West Ham United have turned their season around in impressive fashion, they have plenty of work to do in the summer transfer window to ensure they sufficiently strengthen in key areas.
While a new right-back is a priority the Hammers will also be desperate to bring additional goal-scorers to the London Stadium, and while there is cash to spend they would be wise to at least consider a soon-to-be free agent.
Not long ago, Mirko Vucinic was being linked with some of the Premier League’s top clubs, which made his move to UAE side Al-Jazira all the more surprising. But with his contract about to expire, what chance a belated move to England?
It would be easy to look at Vucinic’s current club or the fact that he is now 33 and immediately dismiss the prospect of a summer switch, but the Montenegro international is a proven goal-scorer with plenty still to offer the right club.
Predominantly a secondary striker who can also operate as a centre-forward or on the wing, Vucinic has scored wherever he has been, including 23 in 21 matches for his current side and 64 in 202 games for AS Roma.
With 17 international goals in 44 appearances for Montenegro, Vucinic is the real deal and he would offer West Ham an experienced, versatile alternative both up front and out wide.
It is fair to say West Ham did not get it right with their striker signings last summer, but they can now rectify that, and while a younger option should also be on the cards, Vucinic would be an interesting option to have, too.
