West Ham should break the bank for Arthur Masuaku’s Congo teammate Cedric Bakambu to solve major problem

West Ham United are facing an uphill battle to stay in the Premier League.

West Ham have made their worst ever start to a top flight season picking up just 10 points from their first 15 games.

Slaven Bilic was sacked and replaced by David Moyes but the Scot has failed to have any impact on results, losing three and drawing one of his four games so far.

There were encouraging signs in the 2-1 defeat at Manchester City last time out.

But one of the club’s major problems reared its head once again as it has all season, a lack of ruthlessness when it comes to punishing the opposition.

With Diafra Sakho looking likely to leave in January after requesting a move in the summer, Hammers co-owners David Sullivan and David Gold must back Moyes in the transfer market.

And they should look at replacing one African striker with another by revitalising a move for Villareal star Cedric Bakambu.

According to the likes of The Telegraph, West Ham had a record bid for Bakambu turned down during the summer.

That looks like it would have been money well spent after Bakambu became the first African to receive the Spanish La Liga’s Player of the Month award after netting 15 goals this season already.

Bakambu celebrates

The 26-year-old was born in France but switched allegiance to DR Congo in March 2015 and is an international teammate of Hammers’ Arthur Masuaku.

West Ham would likely have to bid big to prise Bakambu away mid-season.

But it would be worth it if he helps keep them up and his pace and finishing prowess is exactly what the East Londoners have been missing this season, as was in evidence when their chances did come along against Watford, Leicester, Everton and Man City in the last month.
