West Ham should be on the lookout for wingers this month.

West Ham United manager David Moyes looks desperate to add a central midfielder to his squad this month but is making a signing on the flanks becoming more and more important as the window drags on?

Moyes has been linked with a move for Premier League maestro’s Jonjo Shelvey, Tom Davies, Harry Arter and Francis Coquelin, missing out on the latter as the Frenchman joined Valencia from Arsenal.

However, the sublime performances of captain Mark Noble, twinned with the slight improvements in the displays of Pedro Obiang and Cheikhou Kouyate makes adding a player to his options in the middle of the park hardly a priority.

Instead, Moyes needs to add a winger to his squad after converting Marko Arnautovic into a striker, while Arthur Masuaku is better used in defence. Andre Ayew has failed to find form, while Diafra Sakho’s future is clouded.

Also, the Daily Mirror have claimed on their transfer news blog that Everton boss Sam Allardyce is looking to raid the Hammers for Michail Antonio this month, despite the powerhouse remaining on the sidelines with a muscle injury.

In what could become somewhat of a crisis, a winger with Premier League experience is required and if Everton do indeed sign Antonio, Moyes should look to have the last laugh by giving Gerard Deulofeu a second chance in the Premier League.

Spanish paper Marca claims 23-year-old speed machine Deulofeu is allowed to leave the Nou Camp just six months after Barcelona signed him from Everton, after being left out of Ernesto Valverde’s squad to face Real Socieded on Sunday.

He is one of three players allowed to leave, along with Aleix Vidal and Rafinha. A move for Deulofeu, then, is more than feasible and it goes without saying that the Spain international’s attacking tenacity and speed would improve Moyes’ side.

Having a hand in 18 goals during 62 Premier League appearances – five goals and 13 assists – Deulofeu would be the perfect loan signing at West Ham this month, as he boasts all the traits that suit West Ham’s style of play.
