Should West Ham decide to replace Winston Reid, they could surely attract a better calibre of player than their latest reported target.

It is no surprise that David Moyes is looking for defensive reinforcements at West Ham United after their recent fine form was disrupted by poor back line showings against Newcastle United and Bournemouth.
After conceding three goals in consecutive matches, West Ham remain in a relegation battle and January cannot come soon enough for Moyes.
However, the Hammers’ decision to attempt to reunite Moyes with Sunderland’s Lamine Kone – as reported by the Mirror – is a strange one.

Kone was a star performer on Wearside under Sam Allardyce, but West Ham boss Moyes never got the best out of the Ivorian, who has failed to recapture his best form since then either.
The Hammers look to be eyeing up a defender who has delivered in the past but looks out of sorts now – which is exactly what they already have in Winston Reid.
The Mirror’s report details that Kone is seen as a replacement for Reid after the New Zealand international’s shaky performances this season.

But Reid has shown his class in the past and, if West Ham are determined to recruit a replacement, the club should surely be aiming higher than Kone.
The Sunderland man is currently sidelined by injury, but he had been struggling in the Championship and it seems unlikely that his signing will ease all of their defensive woes.
There is sense in the decision to replace Reid – just perhaps not with this particular target.
