West Ham United will be hoping to make plenty of statements this summer, so perhaps they should target the 22-year-old.

After a campaign where West Ham seemed to come dangerously close to being relegated from the Premier League, Manuel Pellegrini will be hoping that he can enjoy the kind of summer at the London Stadium that ensures that the Hammers find themselves nowhere near the bottom three during the latter stages of next season.

The Daily Mirror recently reported that the Chilean will be given £75 million to spend over the summer, and the Irons supporters may be hoping that the club bring in a handful of marquee signings rather than make a much larger number of additions who only improve the depth in the ranks rather than the strongest side.

The Hammers arguably have the quality to do significantly better next season with two or three superb signings coming in, and perhaps one of the players that Pellegrini should target is Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

The Sun (24/05; page 68) recently reported that the Blues are willing to sell the midfielder to Crystal Palace this summer. And while the report does not suggest whether they would consider letting him head elsewhere, it is difficult to imagine that Chelsea would be any unhappier sending him to another side if the money was right.

Loftus-Cheek is a superb talent. The 22-year-old has regularly been the Stamford Bridge youngster that Chelsea fans have been urging various managers to hand a chance to in the last few years, and he proved how much potential he has with an incredibly impressive loan spell at Selhurst Park.

The youngster made 24 Premier League appearances for the Eagles, appearing right across the midfield for Roy Hodgson’s men. He also scored scored twice and provided three assists to earn a place in England’s World Cup squad, and his potential should tempt Pellegrini to push for West Ham to make a bid this summer.

West Ham’s midfield have shone at times this past term, but they have also looked seriously vulnerable on a number of occasions and not adding more quality in the middle of the park would be a major mistake from Pellegrini.

And with Chelsea seemingly willing to consider letting Loftus-Cheek leave permanently, perhaps the youngster may be one of the marquee additions that West Ham should be looking to make.
