The Bosnia striker, reportedly on the Hammers’ radar, worked with Pellegrini at Manchester City before going on to join Roma.
West Ham United have been linked with veteran striker Edin Dzeko over the past few months, with speculation going back as far as December, as was reported by The Sun at the time.
Earlier this week, Sky Sports News reignited the speculation with a report suggesting the Premier League side has been offered the chance to sign the Roma forward.
Dzeko’s contract with the Serie A side expires at the end of next season and he is yet to sign an extension.
With a good goalscoring tally for the Giallorossi – 86 goals in 171 appearances in all competitions – and English football experience which includes two Premier League titles with Manchester City, he would initielly seem like a good proposition for the Hammers.
However, despite Dzeko having already worked with Manuel Pellegrini at the Etihad Stadium, past comments from the 6ft 3in man appear to suggest that he may not have had the best relationship with the Chilean manager.
“He talks fondly of Roberto Mancini but what about Manuel Pellegrini, the Italian’s successor as manager?” The Guardian, who exclusively interviewed Dzeko, wrote in October 2017.
“Dzeko stops for a second, looks at my phone which records our conversation and says that he was “OK”. That’s it, I ask? He grins.”
Although not necessarily a criticism of Pellegrini, it’s not an exactly an endorsement either – something he seemed happy to give to Mancini in the same interview – and as such, would Dzeko be willing to leave his current club to link up with a manager who is only “OK” in his eyes?
