Rafael Benitez’s Newcastle United were reportedly interested in Manchester City-owned West Ham United goalkeeper Joe Hart in the January transfer window.

According to The Mirror, Newcastle United made a late move for Manchester City-owned West Ham United goalkeeper Joe Hart.

It has been reported that Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez made a late bid for the England international in the January transfer window and offered one of his reserve goalkeepers to sweeten the deal.

However, Premier League rivals West Ham turned down the Magpies’ approach, according to the report, which also claims that City would have been happy for Hart to switch from the Hammers to Newcastle.

Sensible decision?

Hart has lost his place in the West Ham starting lineup to Adrian, but West Ham manager David Moyes made the right decision in not letting him leave.

After all, the 30-year-old is an experienced goalkeeper who knows the Premier League inside outfit, and he could well come handy this season for the London club.

There was no point in getting one of Newcastle’s reserves in return for Hart for West Ham.

After all, if Benitez did not rate them and was happy to include them in the deal for the England international, then how would they have done any better at West Ham?
