West Ham United and Liverpool are among the clubs interested in Schalke midfielder Weston McKennie, according to 90min.

It has been reported that West Ham have expressed an interest in the USA international midfielder.

The report has claimed that Southampton, Everton, Aston Villa and Newcastle United want the youngster as well.

Liverpool have also scouted the 21-year-old midfielder and see him as ‘a potential star of the future’, but the Premier League champions are unlikely to make a move this summer and would prefer to wait and ‘see how his development pans out’, according to the report.

Stats

According to WhoScored, McKennie made 24 starts and four substitute appearances in the Bundesliga for Schalke this past season, scoring three goals in the process.

During the 2018-19 campaign, the 21-year-old American made 19 starts and five substitute appearances in the league, scoring one goal and providing four assists in the process, according to WhoScored.

Star of the future

McKennie is a very talented and promising young midfielder who was described as “an outstanding talent” by his Schalke head coach David Wagner on Bundesliga.com on August 26, 2019.

The youngster has progressed well in the Bundesliga, and he is ready for a move to the Premier League.

The American’s work-ethic, ability on the ball and versatility to play as a No.6 or No.8 would make West Ham or Liverpool a better team.
