West Ham United want to offload Jack Wilshere in the summer transfer window, according to The Times.
It has been reported that West Ham are in talks with the former Arsenal midfielder over either buying out the final year of his contract or subsidise a move to another club.
The Hammers are reportedly desperate to get Wilshere’s £100,000-a-week salary off their books.
“Should another club want to sign him on a deal worth less than £100,000 a week, West Ham would be willing to make up the difference in wages until June 30 next year when his contract is scheduled to end,” adds the report.
Disappointing West Ham United spell
Wilshere joined West Ham in the summer of 2018 on a three-year contract as a free agent after he left London and Premier League rivals Arsenal.
Then West Ham Director of Football Mario Husillos described Wilshere as a player who has “game-changing abilities”, as quoted on the club’s official website, and much was expected of the England international at the London Stadium.
However, the 28-year-old has had injury problems and has failed to make an impact at the Hammers.
According to WhoScored, the former Arsenal midfielder played just 212 minutes in the Premier League in 2019-20, while in 2018-19, he played 389 minutes in the league.
It does make sense for West Ham to reportedly try to get Wilshere off their books.
