West Ham reportedly already planning two bargain summer deals, but will fans be happy?

West Ham are reportedly pursuing Ryan Fredericks and Jonathan Bamba.

West Ham United tied up two signings in January and another one this month, but there is already speculation surrounding the club’s summer plans.

The Hammers brought in Joao Mario and Jordan Hugill from Inter Milan and Preston North End respectively last month, before tying up a deal for free agent Patrice Evra earlier this month to boost their defensive ranks.

Manager David Moyes will now hope to secure Premier League status for next season in the final months of the season, which would give him a great chance of keeping his job at the London Stadium.

Moyes’ deal ends this summer, but speculation over two reportedly planned moves suggests that the Scot is already thinking about next season and beyond.

The Sun claim that West Ham are hoping to strike a pre-contract agreement with Saint-Etienne forward Jonathan Bamba ahead of the summer window, whilst Football.London believe that Fulham defender Ryan Fredericks is a top target given that his contract also ends this summer.

Both players being out of contract this summer means that West Ham are viewing the pair as real bargains, but are Hammers fans likely to be happy with two bargain basement signings?

Fredericks and Bamba are both young, promising and possess great pace, whilst their impressive respective seasons – Fredericks has six assists whilst Bamba has six goals – suggests that they could be productive squad players for Moyes.

Yet with fans looking for big-money signings to justify the move to the London Stadium, rather than shopping for bargains again, supporters may want to see bigger names brought in than Fredericks and Bamba – especially with failed pre-contract signings such as Havard Nordtveit and Sofiane Feghouli so fresh in the memory.

Co-chairmen David Gold and David Sullivan have taken real criticism for bargain signings in recent years, and whilst landing Fredericks and Bamba may be smart to improve Moyes’ squad as a whole, fans may not get too excited about either addition.
