David Moyes’s West Ham United are now actively trying to beat Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United to the signing of Habib Diallo.
Earlier this month, journalist Ignazio Genuardi reported on Twitter that Newcastle United and West Ham United are among the clubs who want to sign Habib Diallo from Strasbourg in the summer transfer window.
Genuardi claimed that Brentford are the other Premier League club that want to sign the 28-year-old striker.
It did not come as a surprise.
After all, Diallo was superb for Strasbourg last season.
The Senegal international striker made 32 starts and five substitute appearances in 2022-23.
The 28-year-old scored 20 goals and gave one assist in those games.
During the 2021-22 season, Diallo scored 11 goals and provided one assist in 16 Ligue starts for Strasbourg.
It has now emerged that West Ham have made a bid for the former Metz striker.

Journalist Papa Mahmoud Gueye has reported that West Ham have made a bid of €17 million (£14.60 million) for Diallo.
Gueye has added that Strasbourg have rejected the offer.
It remains to be seen if the Hammers return with a new and improved bid for Diallo.
Newcastle United should not bid for West Ham United target Habib Diallo
In our opinion, just because West Ham United have bid for Habib Diallo does not mean that Newcastle United have to make an offer as well.
We do not think that Newcastle need to sign Diallo.
Of course, it does not hurt to keep tabs on strikers who are doing well, but the Senegalese has had one truly great season.
If Newcastle are to sign a striker this summer to compete with Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson, then they should go for someone who has been prolific consistently and who would be able to make an impact in the UEFA Champions League.
