West Ham United are keen to land Elye Wahi with Montpellier now awaiting a cash bid from David Moyes’ side.
Chelsea could miss out on Elye Wahi with Montpellier now waiting for West Ham United to make their move.
That is according to a report from Foot Mercato, who claim that West Ham have actually promised Montpellier they will outbid Eintracht Frankfurt for Wahi.
Frankfurt are moving to sign Wahi amid fear that fellow French attacker Randal Kolo Muani will be leaving this summer.
Frankfurt have allegedly put €28million (£24million) on the table for Wahi but Montpellier want more.
It’s stated that West Ham have promised to outbid Frankfurt and Montpellier are now waiting for the offer to become official.
The Hammers seem serious about signing Wahi and could invest in the Frenchman after selling Gianluca Scamacca to Atalanta.
Wahi is a completely different kind of striker, providing real pace rather than the target man figure of Scamacca.
Maybe that’s what David Moyes wants but West Ham will seemingly have to go towards £30million in order to sign Wahi.
Chelsea could now miss out on Elye Wahi
Wahi became a real sensation last season, hitting 19 goals in 33 games for Montpellier.
The 20-year-old has been linked with a number of clubs and it looked like he would be joining Chelsea just weeks ago.
Fabrizio Romano reported late in July that Chelsea were ramping up their pursuit of Wahi.
L’Equipe added that Chelsea had failed with a bid of around £23.5million – just £500,000 less than Frankfurt’s new offer.
It was noted that Chelsea wanted to loan Wahi straight to Strasbourg, Todd Boehly’s latest club.
Links for Wahi to join Chelsea have cooled off of late though with the Blues seemingly prioritising other additions like Moises Caicedo, Romeo Lavia and Michael Olise.
That may have just opened the door for West Ham to move in and potentially sign Wahi, beating Chelsea to his signature while handing him an immediate Premier League chance.
