According to a new report by the Athletic’s Sam Lee, Man City midfielder Kalvin Phillips, who has been linked with a switch to West Ham United could be set for an exit in the summer.

The England international left Leeds United to join the Premier League champions for £42 million (Sky Sports) in the summer. But constant injury problems have been the main factor behind the 27-year-old being on the periphery of things at the club.

Now, West Ham United could very well have the ideal replacement for Arsenal-linked talisman, Declan Rice, if Kalvin Phillips is indeed shown the exit door at Man City.

West Ham target Kalvin Phillips could be set for Man City exit

After all, the Sun had only recently reported that the Hammers were plotting a potential move for the Englishman, who Xavi Hernandez labelled him as ‘superb’ during Euro 2020 whilst speaking to the Times.

However, the Athletic’s Sam Lee reports that there are ‘rumblings’ at Man City that an exit for West Ham-linked No.6, Kalvin Phillips is not ‘completely off the cards’ in the summer, with his future described as ‘far less assured.’

Furthermore, it has been stated that the former Leeds hero must get his ‘intensity and application’ to the highest level to make the cut at the club.

Kalvin Phillips would be the ideal successor to Declan Rice’s throne

If Declan Rice does decide to bid farewell to West Ham once and for all next summer, the news about Kalvin Phillips being available after a potential exit is excellent news for the club.

The ex-Whites star, much like Rice is well capable of operating as a lone defensive midfielder with aplomb, while arguably being a much more expansive passer than his fellow countryman.

The Hammers may not sweat over the reported departure of their club captain if Phillips ends up walking through the door next season.
