West Ham United defender Pablo Zabaleta has selected the moment that the option was exercised in his contract to keep him at the club until next summer as his favourite personal moment of the season.

The Argentine right-back also spoke of how Manuel Pellegrini personally wanted him to play on before declaring his desire to see how the Chilean can develop the squad next season.

Zabaleta has made 66 appearances for the Hammers since his free transfer move from Manchester City in July 2017, including 27 in all competitions this term according to Transfermarkt.

A fan favourite at the London Stadium, the announcement that Zabaleta would stay at the club until the end of next season at least prompted a delighted response from much of the Irons fanbase and Man City fans alike, as can be seen on the comments beneath his Twitter post.

When asked about his favourite moment, the 34-year-old told the official West Ham website: “Signing a new contract.

Zabaleta won the Premier League twice during his time at Man City, following on from successful spells in his homeland with San Lorenzo and Espanyol in Spain, as well as winning 58 caps for Argentina, earning a runners-up medal in the 2014 FIFA World Cup and winning Olympic Gold in 2008.
