West Ham United outcast Arthur Masuaku has sent a message to the club’s fans on Twitter.
The French left back has endured a torrid start to his West Ham career after signing for £6.5 million from Olympiakos in the summer.
Brought in as back-up to star man Aaron Cresswell, Masuaku actually looked promising on his debut against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
But he has been woeful ever since, and his latest showings against Manchester United and Arsenal after recovering from a knee injury will take some getting over.
Arthur Masuaku in action
During 90 minutes of football with Masuaku at left back in those two games, West Ham conceded eight goals.
He has not featured since and West Ham have picked up seven points from three games to jump up to 13th in the Premier League table.
And ahead of the Boxing Day trip to Swansea City, Masuaku has sent a message to Hammers fans on Twitter clarifying his current situation.
“Thank you Hammers for your messages and support!” Masuaku said.
“I’ve a slight problem in my knee but I’ll be back very soon and stronger!”
Masuaku has more problems with his knee
The 23-year-old was somewhat hurriedly brought in after Cresswell was ruled out for four months in pre-season.
And barring his first performance, he has looked weak, uninterested and lacking in any positional sense or game intelligence.
He has been pillared by Hammers fans who have been desperately disappointed with the club’s summer transfer business.
Perhaps, though, Masuaku – who it must be remembered is still relatively young and is the same age as Sam Byram – has been playing with some discomfort given his tweet about the knee issue and deserves another chance to prove himself.
