West Ham now want to sign Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia – a player who recently held talks with Tottenham.

Eldesmarque in Spain believe the Hammers have regularly scouted the Georgia international this season.

However, the east Londoners will have to fend off rivals Spurs to secure Giorgi Mamardashvili‘s signature.

What’s the story?

Well, the Spanish news outlet believe West Ham have sent scouts to almost every one of Mamardashvili’s games this season as he shines for Valencia.

The 22-year-old has kept six clean sheets in 33 La Liga appearances this term, and his efforts have been crucial in keeping the Spanish giants away from the bottom of Spain’s top-flight.

It should be noted that West Ham and Tottenham‘s chances of signing Mamardashvili would increase if Valencia are relegated, as the Spanish giants could decide to sell in order to cover financial losses.

Fabrizio Romano has also claimed that the glovesman is expected to leave Valencia this summer.

Eldesmarque’s story comes after 90min claimed that Tottenham recently held talks with the Georgian’s agent, with a sum of £30m enough to lure him away from the Mestalla.

It is also said that Crystal Palace and Leicester are interested in Mamardashvili.

West Ham interest in Tottenham target Mamardashvili will upset Areola

In our opinion – if this rumour is true – Alphonse Areola will not be a happy man.

The France international has only made two Premier League starts this season after joining the Hammers for £7.8m back in June, as Lukasz Fabianski is preferred in between the sticks by David Moyes.

Areola presumably hoped that next term would be his chance to shine as the Poland international’s contract expires in June.

However, if West Ham really are interested in signing Mamardashvili for a £30m fee, it feels unlikely that he would be arriving as a backup option, suggesting Areola is not being considered as the No.1 next season.

Be sure to keep an eye on the situation, as anything could happen this summer.
