David Moyes’s West Ham United could abandon their pursuit of Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse.
According to The Guardian, West Ham United are interested in signing James Ward-Prowse from Southampton in the summer transfer window.
The Hammers have made two bids for Ward-Prowse.
Southampton, who will play in the Championship next season after getting relegated from the Premier League, have turned down both of them.
The Saints want £40 million for Ward-Prowse.
West Ham do not want to pay more than £25 million for the England international midfielder.
The Guardian has added that the Hammers “see no resale value in Ward-Prowse given he will be 29 in November and have concerns over meeting his wages of about £100,000 a week”.
West Ham United right about Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse
In our opinion, West Ham United should not pay £40 million for Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse in the summer transfer window.
That is too much to pay for a 28-year-old who will play in the Championship next season.

The maximum amount that West Ham should be willing to pay for the midfielder is £30 million.
As West Ham have rightly noted, there is no resale value in the England international.
However, we do not think that the Hammers should be reluctant to pay £100,000 per week to the 28-year-old in salary,
For a player of Ward-Prowse’s quality and experience, that is standard.
The midfielder has made 343 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career.
Ward-Prowse has scored 49 goals and given 38 assists in those games.
We believe that the Southampton midfielder would be able to make an immediate impact at West Ham, who will play in the UEFA Europa League last season and won the UEFA Europa Conference League last campaign.
However, the Hammers should not pay over the odds for the Englishman.
