West Ham United are reportedly facing competition for Manchester City central defender John Stones from Chelsea.
West Ham United interest
The Sun reported on July 31, 2020 that West Ham want to sign Stones in the summer transfer window.
The report in the British tabloid claimed that the former Everton defender could be available for £20 million.
Moyes worked with the England international central defender at Everton, and given the problems West Ham have had in defence this past season, the London club could do with an experienced and capable player such as Stones.
Competition from Chelsea
However, it seems that West Ham are facing competition from one of their former players – Frank Lampard – for the 26-year-old.
According to The Mirror, Chelsea manager Lampard – who started his professional club football career at the Hammers – is planning to bring Stones to Stamford Bridge this summer and is hoping to secure his services for £20 million.
Chelsea or West Ham United?
While West Ham are an ambitious club and Stones has worked with Moyes before, Chelsea clearly have the advantage.
After all, the Blues will play in the Champions League next season, will compete for the Premier League title, and will be able to afford more salary.
However, City may not be willing to sell Stones to a direct rival such as Chelsea and make them stronger.
