West Ham United are reportedly in talks to sign the Barcelona midfielder.

According to a report from Spanish media outlet Esport 3, West Ham are currently in negotiations to sign Barcelona’s Andre Gomes, but the Hammers really should make sure they have done their due diligence before signing the Portuguese midfielder.
The 25-year-old joined Barca from Valencia in the summer of 2016, for a fee that could eventually rise to £46 million, according to BBC Sport, but he has desperately failed to establish himself at the Camp Nou.
Gomes arrived at Barcelona with a big reputation, and high expectations, but he has failed to prove himself as a consistent performer at any stage during his time with the Catalan giants.
He is slow and immobile, and is often found wanting when in possession.
A major concern for West Ham in bringing Gomes to the London Stadium should be the step up in both quality and intensity that a move from La Liga to the Premier League entails.
Midfielders are given no time on the ball in England’s top flight, and that could prove to be a real problem for the former Valencia man.

The Hammers are already fairly well-stocked in the central midfield department, and if they are intent on adding another player in that area, they should instead focus all of their attention of reported target Thiago Maia.
Gomes is overpriced, overrated and overhyped, and West Ham can do a lot better than the Portuguese.
