West Ham United are in desperate need of extra firepower and should raid Celtic if a move for Liverpool’s Daniel Sturridge fails.

The Hammers are languishing in 17th place in the Premier League, one point off the bottom three as their disastrous second season under Slaven Bilic unravels with each passing week.

Knocked out of Europe by Romanian minnows FC Astra, eight defeats from 13 games and the second worst defence in the league tells its own story.

But West Ham’s profligacy is as much to blame with Diafra Sakho and Andy Carroll the only Hammers strikers to have scored this season and both those goals have come in the last seven days, 20 competitive games in.

Sakho and fellow African Hammers striker Andre Ayew both look likely to be away for the African Nations in January further exacerbating the situation.

Bilic has been linked with a move for Liverpool and England striker Daniel Sturridge to try and solve that problem, as reported by the likes of The Express.

But Jurgen Klopp last week insisted none of his squad was up for sale in January despite Sturridge slipping down the pecking order at Anfield.

Should that move fail to materialise, the East Londoners should waste no time raiding Scottish champions Celtic for former Fulham striker Moussa Dembele.

The 20-year-old Frenchman has scored 17 goals in 28 appearances for the Hoops since signing from Fulham in the summer.

And the Paris Saint Germain academy product has the attributes West Ham need to start scoring the goals that will help them climb the league.

His pace and movement would give fellow Frenchman Dimitri Payet an outlet and he could also work well alongside fit again Andy Carroll.
