West Ham United boss David Moyes is reportedly confident that he is in pole position to sign Ryan Fredericks.

West Ham United manager David Moyes gestures during the Premier League match between West Ham United and Southampton at London Stadium on March 31, 2018 in London, England.

According to a recent report from the Daily Mirror (12/04; page 60), David Moyes is confident that West Ham are set to win the race to sign Fulham full-back Ryan Fredericks on a free transfer at the end of the season.

The Mirror reports that Fredericks is out of contract at Craven Cottage this summer and is keen to remain in London. And Moyes – who watched the 25-year-old last week – is confident that he is in pole position to land his signature ahead of the likes of Everton and Swansea.

Fulhams's Ryan Fredericks battles with Hull City's Jarrod Bowen during the Sky Bet Championship match between Hull City and Fulham at KCOM Stadium on December 30, 2017 in Hull, England.

But perhaps, Moyes would be wise to not get too carried away with believing that Fredericks is London Stadium-bound as his recent comments suggest that moving away may not be his preferred option at all.

In comments reported by Get West London, the seven-assist defender insisted that representing Slavisa Jokanovic’s side in the top flight would be the ultimate goal.

“They’re still talking, it’s no secret that I love being at Fulham, there’d be nothing better than playing for Fulham in the Premier League,” he said, as reported by Get West London.

Fulham are most definitely involved in the scramble for the second automatic-promotion place, with Cardiff City their main rivals and Aston Villa boasting an outside chance as they sit five points back with four games to play.

The Cottagers sit in second spot right now, but have played a game more than Cardiff, so Jokanovic’s men are relying on the Bluebirds to slip up at some stage, while they will also be targeting 12 points out of a possible 12.

But given that Fulham have not lost in the league since December and have only drawn three matches in 2018, it appears that they may have the momentum to pounce if Cardiff stutter further.

And if they do manage to go up – they will, of course, get another go in the play-offs if Cardiff see off their challenge – Fredericks’ recent comments hint that West Ham will be left disappointed, so Moyes must think about preparing to pursue some alternative options as there appears to be a couple of hurdles to clear before Fredericks is a Hammer.
