West Ham midfielder Robert Snodgrass has starred on loan at Championship side Aston Villa this season.
West Ham United winger Robert Snodgrass has told Aston Villa’s official website that he does not want his season-long loan spell with the Midlands club to end – but accepts that it may be the case.
The 30-year-old has been in superb form for Steve Bruce’s side, playing a pivotal role in Villa’s charge for promotion from England’s second tier by scoring eight goals and laying on another 13 as assists in 35 Championship outings.
However, there is no clause in his loan contract and it remains to be seen where the former Leeds United, Norwich City and Hull City wide man will end up ahead of the 2018-19 season.
Scotland international Snodgrass was unequivocal when he stated that he wants to remain at Villa Park, but did admit that if West Ham want him to return at the end of said loan, then he will have to.
“I’ve loved being here with the boys and I just don’t want it to end. If it is to end then I want it to end on what I visualised when I came here – I want to get this club promoted,” Snodgrass said.
Villa currently sit seven points behind the automatic promotion slots with six games to play, but the likelihood is that Snodgrass will pull the claret and blue shirt more than that if they finish in the top six.
He has a contract at the London Stadium until the summer of 2020, reportedly worth £40,000 a week according to the Daily Star, but a rocky relationship with the club’s owners could see him leave in the coming months on a permanent basis.
