The West Ham United pair are battling it out for the left-back starting spot under Manuel Pellegrini.
West Ham left-back Arthur Masuaku spoke to reporters yesterday, and highlighted how the competition between himself and Aaron Cresswell can only be a good thing for his club, as quoted by Football.London.
The 25-year-old joined the Hammers from Olympiacos in the summer of 2016, for a fee believed to be worth in the region of £6 million, and he has gone on to make 61 appearances in all competitions.
The Congolese ace is somewhat of a divisive figure at the London Stadium, however.
When he has been deployed in a more advanced role, he has impressed, but West Ham fans have criticised his performances when he has operated in the left-back position.
Cresswell, meanwhile, seems to be far more consistent than his teammate, and is undoubtedly a better defender.
Masuaku spoke to reporters about his start to the season, and suggested that the competition he faces from the former Ipswich Town man is very healthy for West Ham, as quoted by Football.London:
“I played today and when Aaron plays, I think he’s playing well. It’s good because I think the coaches have two good left-backs to pick from. We are both fighting to get into the team. We want to both give our best and I will keep trying to give our best.”
Next up for West Ham is a home game against Crystal Palace tomorrow, and Masuaku will surely start the match, with Aaron Cresswell out injured for at least another week.
