West Ham United want Luizao and reports in Brazil suggest that he will make the move to East London when his Sao Paulo deal ends in January.

The Hammers strengthened their defence over the summer by securing Nayef Aguerd, Thilo Kehrer and Emerson Palmieri.

David Moyes isn’t done strengthening his defence just yet though and seemingly wants another left-footed centre back.

Angelo Ogbonna is out of contract in the summer and Aguerd’s injury has shown the lack of depth in terms of a left-footed central defender.

West Ham United want Luizao

The main target for West Ham in that area of late has been Luizao.

The Sao Paulo talent has emerged as a real talent over in Brazil and West Ham have made their interest known.

Luizao, 20, is out of contract on January 31st 2023 and it looks like Sao Paulo are set to lose the centre back.

Goal Brasil claim that Luizao is now ‘practically certain’ to leave Sao Paulo in January.

It’s suggested that West Ham did consider trying to pay cash to sign Luizao before his contract expired.

West Ham now look set to simply sign Luizao on a free transfer though, leaving Sao Paulo out of pocket.

The transfer deadline is January 31st in England with the window shutting at 11pm.

Luizao’s deal ends that day, so West Ham will hope there are no registration issues that cause a problem, but they will likely hope to have a pre-contract agreement sorted.

Luizao has played 20 times for Sao Paulo’s first team, bagging one goal.

The youngster has even played as a left back at times and that versatility could come in handy for David Moyes and co.

Luizao would become West Ham’s seventh Brazilian player in their history, following on from Bernardo Rosa, Ilan, Wellington Paulista, Nene, Felipe Anderson and current first-team star Lucas Paqueta.
