West Ham United legend Geoff Hurst has told the Daily Star that he doesn’t want to see the club sign either Yaya Toure or Jack Wilshere this summer.

The Hammers have already tied up one summer signing by landing Fulham right back Ryan Fredericks on a free transfer, and work is continuing on a host of new signings.

Reports from the Daily Mail claim that West Ham are keen to bring in goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski, defender Issa Diop and winger Felipe Anderson, with new manager Manuel Pellegrini looking for additions.

Two more players linked with moves to the London Stadium are midfielders Yaya Toure and Jack Wlishere, who are both available on free transfers with their respective Manchester City and Arsenal contracts expiring.

Toure, 35, starred with City, making 316 appearances following a 2010 move from Barcelona, and the Ivorian is now available for free after City decided not to renew his deal.

The Daily Mail recently claimed that new Hammers boss Pellegrini wants to reunite with Toure, though his wages could be huge having earned £220,000-a-week at the Etihad Stadium.

Meanwhile, 26-year-old Wilshere is a top target according to The Sun, and that could see the England international stay in London and look to play first-team football away from Arsenal.

However, West Ham legend Geoff Hurst has now told the Daily Star that he thinks Toure shouldn’t be considered given his rows with Pep Guardiola and that Wilshere is too injury-prone to be signed, urging West Ham to steer well clear of two ‘cast offs’.

“When I see them linked with Toure I just think that’s completely and utterly off the wall,” said Hurst. “I absolutely cannot believe as a club we’re looking at him. We bought the full-back – Ryan Fredericks – from Fulham which was terrific. But looking at Toure – with his comments about Pep Guardiola and the business with his birthday cake a few years ago – for West Ham to even think about talking to him is a very, very poor decision. There comes a time when a player is past his best and we shouldn’t be buying cast offs from other teams.”

“Wilshere is injury prone and you don’t want to sign players like that. We’ve already got Andy Carroll. Wilshere again for me is a complete no. There’s enough players in the world. West Ham don’t need to sign cast offs, injured players and players that are too old. For God’s sake surely we have enough money to buy a bit of quality,” he added.
