Hammers legend Sir Geoff Hurst sat down for an exclusive interview with the club’s official website, and praised the loyal West Ham fanbase, highlighting how fears over whether they could fill their new home to its’ capacity have been proven to be unfounded.

The East London outfit have struggled to settle into their new surroundings this term, winning just six of their 17 Premier League home games, but that hasn’t dampened the enthusiasm of the Hammers fans, who have continued to turn out in their droves.

They have the third highest average attendance in the division this season, with their impressive 56,967 behind only Manchester United and Arsenal.

And Hurst, who scored 180 league goals for West Ham, highlighted how that superb support will be a fantastic thing for the club going forward, as quoted by WHUFC.com:

“The big issue was always whether we would fill the new stadium, having had 35,000 at Upton Park, and that worry has proven unfounded – we are getting nearly 60,000 every week and looking to increase the capacity. It’s one of the best stadiums in the country. If we improve the team, improve results and push on, I think it will be fantastic for us.”
