West Ham have launched a last-ditch effort to sign Benfica attacker Darwin Nunez, with the Irons making a £50m bid for the forward.
According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, David Moyes is desperate to sign the 21-year-old Uruguay international, who this season has exploded onto the scene with the Portuguese giants.
The striker has scored an impressive 20 goals in 25 matches in all competitions this season, with Nunez impressing in the UEFA Champions League for Benfica where the attacker bagged a brace against FC Barcelona in a 3-0 win against the La Liga giants.
As per the report, West Ham have already had a £45m bid rejected for Nunez. However, the Irons have since launched one last offer to sign the South American talisman, who could lead the Hammers’ frontline for years to come.
With the transfer window closing in just over 10 hours, time is against West Ham if they are to sign Nunez, who is currently on international duty with Uruguay for South America’s FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Indeed, Nunez would be an exceptional signing for West Ham. And with a £50m offer now on the table, all Moyes and company can do now is wait to see if the bid is accepted by Benfica.
Nunez could take West Ham to the next level if he signs

West Ham have evolved into a club very few would have expected under Moyes, and if the Scotsman can bring Nunez to the club, the Irons could make the next step under the veteran manager with the 21-year-old striker.
Nunez has been in fine form this campaign and could easily translate his goalscoring exploits to the Premier League. And the forward could provide both cover and competition for Michail Antonio, which is something West Ham have been crying out for for years.
