West Ham United can’t quite afford to snap up Burnley defender James Tarkowski in January despite the fact that he is out of contract next summer.

Tarkowski still beyond West Ham’s budget

The Sun report that Tarkowski is one of West Ham’s top targets to bolster their centre back options in January.

With Kurt Zouma and Angelo Ogbonna both out, another centre back is an absolute must for West Ham.

Moyes has wanted Tarkowski for some time now, but it’s suggested that West Ham can’t do a deal.

Burnley aren’t just going to let Tarkowski leave on the cheap even if he can leave for free in a matter of months.

With a big fee still needed, the Hammers seemingly feel a January deal for Tarkowski will be beyond them.

Still hope for Moyes next summer

It seems that Tarkowski actually wants to wait until next summer to make his move away from Burnley.

When Tarkowski becomes a free agent, he will likely have his pick of a number of interested clubs.

The London Evening Standard claim that Tarkowski wants a move to West Ham and fancies playing for David Moyes.

That’s a major boost for West Ham, who could land themselves a bargain by signing Tarkowski on a free transfer.

Tarkowski would immediate bolster David Moyes’ back line, possibly forming a partnership with Zouma in the long term.

Branded a ‘top player’ by Sean Dyche, Tarkowski will be a man in demand in 2022.

It may take longer than hoped, but West Ham have a real chance to win that race.
