Joao Mario has hinted he wants to stay at West Ham United but should they pay want Inter Milan want for the midfielder?

There does not seem to be any chance of Joao Mario playing for Inter Milan again, at least that is according to the midfielder himself after his latest comments.

Mario is currently on loan at West Ham United and after a disappointing season-and-a-half at the San Siro after joining from Benfica in 2016, the Portugal international is in no rush to return.

A picture taken on February 7, 2017 shows the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, commonly known as San Siro in Milan.

“I’m happy with my new adventure and I hope to finish the season well. Inter are part of my past now. I could have played more, but football is about that too,” the 25-year-old was quoted by the London Evening Standard.

“Now I’m happy and that’s what matters most.”

Should the Hammers swoop?

This should come as music to the ears of West Ham, who as FCInterNews reported recently made a move to sign Mario permanently.

There is an option to do that in the deal that was struck when the Portuguese arrived on loan in January, but only if Inter recoup a large amount of the £35m they paid for him a little under two years ago.

Yet despite arriving at the London Stadium with a decent reputation, has Mario done anything since to really justify paying anywhere near that amount on him?

Mario may be keen to stay in East London, but whether that feeling should be mutual is one that is most certainly up for debate.
