West Ham United look set to miss out on left back Adrien Truffert as he closes in on a new deal with Rennes.

Adrien Truffert is now expected to sign a new contract with Rennes despite interest from West Ham United.

That is according to Foot Mercato, who claim that Truffert is now on the verge of extending his contract.

It’s stated that Nottingham Forest and West Ham United both wanted to sign Truffert this summer.

However, Truffert will now sign a new two-year deal and commit his future to Rennes.

This comes mere hours after the Daily Mail reported that West Ham would be stepping up their efforts to sign Truffert this week.

The Hammers are keen to bring in a young left back with Aaron Cresswell attracting interest, but it won’t be Truffert arriving.

Truffert appears to have been a pick from new technical director Tim Steidten but the Frenchman isn’t interested.

West Ham United could turn to Ian Maatsen as Adrien Truffert interest fails

The Mail’s report added that West Ham have also held talks to sign Chelsea left back Ian Maatsen.

The Dutchman spent last season on loan at Burnley and impressed in Vincent Kompany’s promotion-winning side.

Maatsen is back with Chelsea this summer and has shown major potential during pre-season games.

The problem for Maatsen is that Chelsea already have two left backs in Ben Chilwell and Marc Cucurella.

That means Maatsen may well look to leave and a move to West Ham should appeal to the 21-year-old.

Truffert bagged six assists last season, so it’s clear that West Ham are seeking an attack-minded option there.

Maatsen would fit the bill perfectly and he may become West Ham’s top target with Truffert set to snub a move to London.
